The Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology (FRA-ILT) became an internationally well-known institution due to its excellent record in developing laser-based production technologies. The department “Ablation and Joining”, develops as well as optimises laser processing techniques and laser systems for electronics, optics and micro-technology applications such as: Laser beam micro-soldering and welding, drilling, micro- and nanostructuring, micro- stamping and embossing technology, process monitoring and Life Science.
The activities range from feasibility studies to small-series production. Furthermore the FRA-ILT plans, constructs, mounts and tests complete laser systems which fit to the individual requirements of the customers.
The department of Micro--manufacturing and Ultraclean Technology at Fraunhofer (FRA-IPA) has more than 20 years of experience dealing with production-technology issues that arise in the area of miniaturized production processes and the transfer of processes from lab to volume production. FRA-IPA leads research in industrial manufacturing system design, manufacturing systems integration, miniature/micro-products design, manufacturing automation as well as areas of planning and integration, like e.g. enterprise development and factory organisation.
